In Their Own Story

In the twilight of the old world, a young dragon no larger than a scavenger crouched in the shadow of a stone tower. Above, the sky curdled with smoke from distant fires. She felt a strange heat building in her chest, a new and terrible fire. As the first flames burst from her jaws, she saw the humans flee, their metal tools glinting uselessly. The world was changing, and she was becoming its destroyer.
