The Rainforest has been the ancestral home of the RainWings for centuries. Before the War of SandWing Succession, the tribe lived in relative isolation, focusing on art, relaxation, and the cultivation of their unique venom and color-changing abilities. Their society was led by Queen Magnificent, though she was often absent or neglectful, leaving the tribe without effective leadership. Queen Glory rose to power after the events of the Jade Mountain Prophecy. Under her rule, the Rainforest became a sanctuary for both RainWings and the displaced NightWings, though tensions arose when the NightWings attempted to exploit the RainWings' resources and labor.

In Their Own Story

The rain had not stopped for three days, and the canopy village glistened like a thousand emeralds strung together by wet vines. Below, the river swelled and growled, its voice a low thunder that vibrated through the roots. Above, the leaves whispered and sagged, each one a tiny drum beaten by a million droplets. On the highest platform, Queen Glory stood motionless, her scales shifting through a slow, contemplative rainbow as she watched the horizon. The delegation from the Sky Kingdom was due by dusk, and the rain—relentless, drumming, impossible to ignore—would either soften their tempers or drown their patience. She flexed her claws against the slick bark and smiled, tasting the ozone in the air. In the Rainforest, every storm was a negotiation, and she had never lost one yet.

Reader's Guide

The Rainforest stretches across a broad, low-lying region of the archipelago, dominated by a dense tropical canopy that can rise hundreds of feet above the forest floor. The climate is warm and humid year-round, with persistent rainfall that keeps the vegetation lush and the air thick. A major river bisects the territory, feeding a series of waterfalls that tumble over moss-covered cliffs and mist the lower understory in a perpetual haze. The RainWings build their entire settlement in the canopy, creating a layered village of platforms, bridges, and woven homes that clings to the trunks and branches of the great trees. The queen's palace sits in the crown of the largest tree, a sprawling structure of living wood and vine that overlooks the river and the open sky beyond. Below the canopy, the forest floor is wilder and less developed, home to various fauna and a tangle of undergrowth that the RainWings rarely venture into for daily life. The Rainforest connects to the rest of the archipelago via the river (which flows toward the coast) and through flight paths over the treetops. Its position makes it a natural crossroads for diplomacy, and the RainWings have long served as mediators between the other five territories. The waterfalls and river also serve as natural boundaries, and the dense canopy provides a degree of concealment that makes the territory difficult to invade by force.
