Queen Blaze

One of three SandWing sisters whose fight for the throne ignited a twenty-year war.

Queen Blaze

Queen Blaze is a SandWing who was one of the three daughters of Queen Oasis of the SandWings. After Oasis was killed by three treasure-hunting humans (which dragons call scavengers) without having a specified heir, Blaze, along with her sisters Blister and Burn, each sought the SandWing throne for herself. This dispute sparked the War of SandWing Succession, a war across most of Pyrrhia that lasted roughly twenty years. The Dragonet Prophecy claimed that five dragonets—the Dragonets of Destiny—must choose who should ascend to the SandWing throne and bring an end to the war.

Lore & Background

Queen Blaze is one of the three daughters of Queen Oasis of the SandWings. When Oasis was killed by three treasure-hunting humans (called scavengers by dragons) without naming an heir, Blaze, Blister, and Burn each claimed the throne. Their rivalry sparked the War of SandWing Succession, a conflict that engulfed most of Pyrrhia for roughly twenty years. The war is the central conflict of the first arc of the series, and the Dragonet Prophecy—given by a NightWing named Morrowseer eight years into the war—stated that after twenty years, a group of five dragonets called the Dragonets of Destiny would be born and bring an end to the war. Throughout the events of arc one, the Dragonets of Destiny (Clay, Tsunami, Glory, Starflight, and Sunny) traveled across Pyrrhia and eventually ended the war by choosing a SandWing named Thorn to be queen using the Eye of Onyx, a magical item used to choose a SandWing ruler.

In Their Own Story

The SandWing throne sat empty. Queen Oasis had been killed by three scavengers—humans who dared to steal her treasure—and she had left no heir. Her three daughters, Blaze, Blister, and Burn, each believed the crown belonged to them. Their rivalry did not stay in the SandWing palace. It spread across Pyrrhia, pulling every tribe into a war that would last twenty years. Blaze was one of the three claimants, and her name was spoken alongside her sisters' in every camp, every council, every prophecy. The Dragonet Prophecy, given by the NightWing Morrowseer eight years into the war, promised that five dragonets would one day choose the true queen. When that day came, the Dragonets of Destiny—Clay, Tsunami, Glory, Starflight, and Sunny—used the Eye of Onyx to select a SandWing named Thorn, not Blaze, to rule. The war ended, and Blaze's claim to the throne was set aside.

Reader's Guide

Name: Queen Blaze Tribe: SandWing Role in the story: One of the three daughters of Queen Oasis of the SandWings. Her claim to the throne, alongside her sisters Blister and Burn, sparked the War of SandWing Succession, which lasted roughly twenty years and is the central conflict of the first arc. Key relationships: She is a daughter of Queen Oasis and a sister to Blister and Burn. The Dragonets of Destiny ultimately chose Thorn, not Blaze, to be queen using the Eye of Onyx. Notable moments: Her claim to the throne after Oasis's death is the direct cause of the War of SandWing Succession. The war is ended when the Dragonets of Destiny choose Thorn as queen. Personality traits: Vain, charismatic, and not particularly cunning—Blaze relies on her charm and alliances with the IceWings rather than her own strategic mind. Unlike her ruthless sisters, she prefers luxury and adoration over bloodshed, which makes her the most approachable—but least feared—of the three claimants.
