Peril is a SkyWing with firescales, a rare and dangerous condition that makes her scales hot enough to ignite wood, melt metal, and char flesh on contact. She was raised by Queen Scarlet, the tyrannical SkyWing queen, and served as her champion in the SkyWing arena, where she fought and killed other dragons for the crowd's entertainment. Peril's firescales made her a perfect weapon for Scarlet — but also isolated her from all physical contact, as she could not safely touch anyone without causing agony or death. In the second arc, Peril becomes a student at Jade Mountain Academy, the intertribal school founded by the Dragonets of Destiny. There, she struggles to control her powers and find friendship and acceptance, often avoiding touch even when she craves it. She plays a key role in freeing the ancient animus dragon Darkstalker by destroying a scroll that held his power, releasing him back into the world. Later, she helps defeat Darkstalker by using a piece of that same scroll to enchant a strawberry that turns him into a dragonet with no memories, effectively killing him — a bittersweet end for a dragon who never wanted to be a monster.

Peril stood at the edge of the arena, her scales glowing faintly in the dim light. Queen Scarlet's voice rang out, commanding her to fight. She had done this so many times before — stepping into the sand, facing another dragon, feeling the heat build under her skin until she could not hold it back. But this time was different. This time, she was not fighting for Scarlet. She was fighting for herself, for the chance to be something other than a weapon. When the battle ended, she did not wait for the queen's approval. She spread her wings and flew, leaving the arena and the screams behind, heading toward a future she could not yet see but desperately wanted to believe in — a future where maybe, just maybe, she could touch someone without hurting them.
